Garden Diary For September
As soon as the weather feels stablized we can all feel confident to start planting spring annuals like petunias, marigolds, carnations, salvia, celosia, cosmos, delphiniums, zinnias just to name a few.
Clean up those winter annuals like primula and give them a good liquid feed like yates thrive to lengthen there flowering time while you wait for the newly planted annuals to come away.
Dahlia tubers are arriving in the store so now is the best time to plant them. Give them a good feed with tui bulb food upon planting to get them off to a boisterous start.

Give your roses a strong dosing of copper to prevent any diseases and neem oil to keep the bugs at bay.Feed all established plants now with Super Sheep pellets to encourage strong growth through spring and good flowering through summer.

Get potatoes in the ground early for the christmas table. Dont forget to loosen the soil well before planting and mound around the shoots as they grow.

Their is plenty of vegetable seedling available from now on but be warned. Every year we see over anxious gardeners plant before spring really settles in only to experience a cold snap an considerable replanting . (But dont let that put you off coming to see us for a chat, a coffee and a good nosey around.)
